The Best Colorado Micro Wedding Venues

Colorado is an incredible place to plan a small, intentional wedding day. From mountain lodges to cozy cabins and scenic outdoor spaces, there’s no shortage of beautiful options when it comes to choosing one of the best Colorado micro wedding venues.

If you’re dreaming of an intimate celebration surrounded by nature (and maybe a few epic views), a micro wedding here can be something truly special. But before we dive into my favorite venues across the state, let’s talk about what a micro wedding actually is.

What is a Micro Wedding?

A micro wedding, sometimes called an intimate wedding, is simply a smaller celebration centered around the people who matter most. There’s no strict rule for guest count, but most micro weddings include around 35-40 guests or fewer.

Micro weddings sit somewhere between a traditional wedding and an elopement. While elopements are usually just the couple (or a handful of guests), a micro wedding allows you to celebrate with your closest friends and family while still keeping the day relaxed and intentional.

Over the last several years, micro weddings have grown in popularity as couples look for ways to create wedding days that feel more personal. One of the things I love most about them is how much flexibility they allow. Couples can focus on meaningful experiences, beautiful locations, and time spent with the people they care about most.

If you’re planning a small wedding in Colorado, you’re in luck. There are so many incredible Colorado micro wedding venues that are perfect for intimate celebrations.

If you’re planning to invite more than about 15 guests, I usually recommend choosing a reservable ceremony site. As your photographer, I can also help you find the perfect location and guide you through the details so the day flows smoothly.

The Best Time for a Micro Wedding in Colorado

Colorado is beautiful year-round, but the best time for your micro wedding depends on the kind of day you’re dreaming of – and where you want to celebrate.

Seasons & Scenery

  • Spring (April–June): Snow melts and wildflowers start to bloom, creating fresh, colorful landscapes. Spring weddings are quieter than summer, and the soft light is perfect for photos.
  • Summer (June–August): Warm days, clear skies, and peak wildflower season make summer ideal for mountain weddings. Long days mean plenty of time for outdoor ceremonies and sunset photos.
  • Fall (September–October): Golden aspens and crisp air make fall one of the most popular seasons for Colorado micro weddings. The colors are incredible, and the weather is often perfect for outdoor celebrations.
  • Winter (November–March): Snowy landscapes, cozy cabins, and off-peak venues create a magical winter wedding vibe. If you love the idea of a snowy backdrop and intimate, fireside moments, winter is your season.

Days of the Week

Weekends can be busy, especially in mountain towns and scenic hotspots. One of the perks of a micro wedding is flexibility: Monday through Thursday often means quieter Colorado micro wedding venues, more relaxed pacing, and a better overall experience.

Altitude & Guests

Many Colorado micro wedding venues sit high in the mountains. If you have guests coming from lower elevations, recommend for them to take a day or two to acclimate. This helps avoid altitude sickness and gives everyone a chance to soak in the scenery before your big day.

Pro Tip: Smaller weddings make it easier to pick unique venues and off-peak days, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
